Members of the North Plainfield team and their coach, Bobby Lake, tell Mycentraljersey.com that someone shoved bananas through a hole in the door of their locker room shortly before they took the field Saturday at Summit.

About half of North Plainfield's team is black.

Lake said he immediately addressed the incident with his team and has sent an email to the parents of his players.

Steve Timko, executive director of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, issued a statement Tuesday saying the organization had started an investigation into the incident. Timko said he had learned of the allegations on Monday.
