Standoff at Union Twp home ends peacefully

UNION TOWNSHIP (AP) — Authorities say a standoff involving an armed man at a Unon Township home has ended peacefully.

Union County prosecutors say police went to the home shortly before 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, after being told an apparently distraught man with a gun was in the residence.

Officers set up a perimeter around the Pleasant Parkway home and shut down a stretch of the roadway. But negotiators were soon able to get the man to discard the gun and leave the home without incident.

The 22-year-old man was taken to a hospital. His name was not released and no charges have been filed, though the investigation is ongoing.

It was later determined that the man fired two shots inside the home, but no one was struck.
