Stabbing suspect who sparked manhunt busted after returning home
FLORENCE — A stabbing suspect who sparked a manhunt in this Trenton suburb Wednesday night was arrested Thursday morning after returning to his home.
Akil Herbert, 20, has been charged with stabbing a woman on the sidewalk in the Roebling section of this township.
Police said that the woman, whose identity was not disclosed, was found with several stab wounds and facial injuries in front of her 5th Avenue home around 4 p.m.
Several witnesses identified Herbert, 20, as the suspect after he ran from the scene.
Police warned residents of the community to stay indoors as authorities set up a perimeter to search for Herbert.
Herbert, who police said also lived on 5th Avenue, was arrested when he returned home around 6:30 a.m. and charged with attempted murder, violation of a final restraining order, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was hospitalized for injuries he sustained in the stabbing. He will be held at Burlington County Jail with cash-only bail set at $265,000.
