EAST RUTHERFORD — A 24-year-old borough man has been charged with murder after the 25-year-old woman he was accused of beating and attacking with a knife earlier this month died on Thursday.

Francis Tattoli remained held at the Bergen County jail on Thursday with bail set at $5 million with no option to post 10 percent.

He has been charged with first-degree felony murder, first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree possession of a weapon.

He had been arrested Dec. 18 a short distance from his apartment at 258 Summer St. and charged with attempted murder.

Prosecutors have released few details about the attack on Monet Thomas. They say police were called Dec. 17 about the attack on the Kearny resident.

Thomas had been in another apartment in the building and was beaten and attacked after she went outside.

Her body was found inside the doorway of Tattoli's first-floor apartment, prosecutors said.

A GoFundMe fundraising page that had been set up to raise money for her medical expenses says Thomas was attacked after taking her dog for a walk in the yard.

Thomas remained in critical condition at Hackensack University Medical Center until her death Thursday morning.
