Over the weekend I was honored and humbled to participate in two events supporting the men and women of law NJ law enforcement. My wife Jodi and son Michael spent some time with the heroes at the Princeton Police Department led by Chief Nick Sutter.

My wife joined me at the PBA Annual Valor Awards Event in Atlantic City where I was recognized and said a few words. NO, I did NOT tell the Muffin joke. It was a great honor to participate in this event which was attended by nearly 1,000 NJ officers and their families.

I caught up with NJSPBA President Patrick Colligan to recap the event as well as talk about the recent shootings of police officers in four different cities across the country. I asked Pat what he could even says to the union members, to fellow officers in light of the recent ambushes. "There aren't any," Colligan stated.

As far as the message that Colligan would like to get out to the general public, it's to understand that all police right now are ultra-sensitive to what's going on. "I would just ask patience with us because we are trying to be hyper-vigilent. There's no police officer that woke up in the entire country today and doesn't know that four officers were shot yesterday," Colligan said.

Colligan also recommended that since at least two of these ambushes started with a vehicle pulling up next to a police car, that if you need an officer, do not pull up behind a police vehicle at a traffic stop or approach them with caution.  Using common sense is key.
