HAMMONTON — A school bus hit a utility pole in South Jersey on Monday morning.

Hammonton police chief Robert Jones told New Jersey 101.5 the school bus was not carrying children when it struck a pole on North Liberty Street in Hammonton around 7 a.m. Photos and video from the scene show the bus had "Hammonton Public Schools" written on the side.

The Warren E. Sooy Elementary School and Hammonton Middle School are both located nearby.

Jones said the crash remains under investigation and could not say the circumstances of what led the bus to hit the pole.

Atlantic City Electric's outage map did not show a power outage in the immediate area.
