Report says South Jersey beating suspect to surrender

NBC 10 is reporting that the suspect in the brutal beating of a woman in Salem as her 2-year-old son watched may surrender to police today.

NBC 10 reports Latia Harris’ lawyer contacted  New Jersey State Police at the Bellmawr barracks and said she would surrender today or tomorrow face charges of aggravated assault and two counts of terroristic threats. Bail is set at $350,000.

The television station did not cite a source. Salem Police Chief John Perula III told the South Jersey Times he had no information about a surrender. ” “I have not been in contact with Ms. Harris or her attorney. We still encourage her to turn herself in and continue to ask her or her attorney to reach out to law enforcement to facilitate her surrender.”

Harris has been considered a fugitive from justice since the beating of Catherine Ferreira a week ago on a path in a Salem apartment complex Bystanders caught the fight on tape but did nothing to stop in and stop the fight.

Perula urged Harris, who had not been seen since the attack,  to surrender as had her family.
