A South Carolina man has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for helping transport stolen firearms to New Jersey.Prosecutors say 40-year-old Bassir Baxter and two other men, all from Columbia, S.C., drove to Newark, N.J., on March 7, 2012, to sell the weapons, which included military-style rifles.

The sale was stopped when police raided an apartment where the guns were spread out on a floor for display. Twenty had been stolen from a gun shop in Bristol, Tenn., and two from a store in Boone, N.C.

Baxter was sentenced Monday in Newark to 75 months in prison.

A co-defendant, 41-year-old Bevan Holston, previously received a 10-year prison term. His son, 20-year-old Cedric Reddick, awaits sentencing. During the raid, the two tried to escape arrest by jumping out a window.
