Surveilllance video and interviews with witnesses determined an older model light brown or tan SUV pulled into the station from the southbound side of Route 27. Police said the gunman's face was partially covered, and described him as a black male. He left the gas station on the northbound side without any money from what police described as a botched robbery.

Middlesex County Crimestoppers is offering a reward for anyone who provides information leading to the apprehension of the suspect responsible for the shooting.

“We believe there are people out there with information that can help us close this case," Chief Raymond Hayducka said. "Our victim was just working extra hours to get ahead and he was shot. You can call, remain anonymous, and collect a reward for the information. That one call can make a difference.”

Hayducka said anyone with information about the failed robbery attempt should call 800-939-9600 or 732-329-4646. Text messages may be sent to 274637 (CRIMES) with the keyword ‘’midtip’’ followed by a message.
