The accident occurred Wednesday night in Bernards Township.

Police and the Somerset County prosecutor's office say 44-year-old Lori Weiss's 2011 Mercedes Benz SUV crossed the center line and stuck a 2008 Honda Accord.

The Honda's driver, 49-year-old Peter Calvelli of Bridgewater Township, was pronounced dead at the scene. His daughter, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital.

Weiss, of Warren Township, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. She was charged Thursday with vehicular homicide and assault by auto.

It wasn't known if she had retained an attorney. A message left at a phone number listed for Weiss wasn't returned Thursday.
