Now’s the Time to Think Social Security While You’re Still Young
When you’re in your thirties and forties and hear about Social Security, you think, “This is not something I’m going to have to worry about for a while” Well think again.
According to the Government, The trust funds that support Social Security will run dry in 2033 which is three years earlier than expected. That would be about the time that thirty something and forty something you would be eligible. Medicare is expected to run out of money in 2024.
Money is going to need to be found if Social Security and Medicare are to keep going. One way would be to take it from those who don’t really need it. The average monthly retirement benefit is $1.232 a month. There are people who live quite comfortably on much more than that. These are people who don’t really need it. But there will be too many people who will.
Now if you’re asking someone to give back their Social Security which is something they’ve paid into all their working lives, then you have to give something back as well. Perhaps a tax break. The figures can be determined when the time comes. Either way the time is coming fast.
We’ve got to be ready when it does. If you’ve got any ideas, please feel free to list them below.
