A storm that is bringing ice and snow to South Carolina, North Carolina, Louisiana and Georgia will move close enough to bring the Jersey Shore from Ocean County and south  2-4 inches of snow Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning according to a revised Winter Weather Advisory.

Cape May County is under a Winter Weather Warning for 3-5 inches of snow.

1-2 inches of snow are expected to fall in Monmouth County along with northern Burlington and Gloucester counties.  The rest of New Jersey will get less than an inch accumulation.

Airline passengers will feel the effects of the storm as nearly 5,700 flights have been canceled across the country in advance of the storm according to, including several dozen flights in or out of Newark Liberty.

The snow will begin to fall by early evening and continue into the overnight hours.

Much of Georgia is under a winter storm watch for today and tomorrow, with some areas expected to see as much as three inches of snow. But forecasters say ice could be the real threat.

As many as 50 million people across the region could be affected. Shortly after snow began falling in Atlanta, the business hub of the Southeast, traffic came to halt. Interstates were clogged as commuters ended their workday early, and office security guards and doormen took to the streets downtown to try to direct traffic amid a symphony of blaring car horns. At the world’s busiest airport nearby, about 900 flights had been canceled.

Snow began falling before dawn today in the extreme northwest portion of Alabama. At a grocery store in Montgomery, shoppers had cleaned out three shelves of bottled water, and all of the boxed fire logs were gone.
