Firefighters have extinguished five small brush fires that broke out along a seven-mile stretch on the Garden State Parkway north Thursday.

State Police Lt. Stephen Jones says it does not appear the fires were deliberately set.

Jones says the first fire was reported near Exit 133 in Woodbridge at 9:15 a.m. and the last was reported at 9:34 a.m. at Exit 140 in Union Township.

Other fires sprang up in Clark, Cranford and Union.

Officials suspect the wind might have blown sparks along the toll road.
