MORRIS PLAINS — A man and a woman were found dead outside apartment building in a likely slaying-suicide Saturday morning.

Police were called to the address hours before dawn on reports of gunfire and found both people already dead.

Mayor Frank Druetzler told the Daily Record that investigators believe a man killed someone in the Highlands at Morris Plains apartment building about 3:15 a.m., then ran out and ultimately killed himself.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office said the body of a 28-year-old woman was found outside the apartment building while the body of a 32-year-old man was found across the street on the Morris Township side of the border.

The apartments are on The Buckley Way off East Hanover Avenue, which divides the municipalities.

Prosecutors did not release other details.

A resident of the apartment building told the Daily Record that he awoke to screams and what sounded like gunfire. Police remained on the scene through the morning.
