Pedestrians and cyclists crossing the Bayonne Bridge on weekends will be able to take shuttle buses while the bridge's walkway is closed as part of a large-scale project.The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced the shuttle buses Thursday.

They will operate Fridays through Sundays between May and October while the walkway is closed. The agency is overseeing a $1.3 billion project to raise the level of the roadway to allow larger ships to pass under and serve the ports of New York and New Jersey by the end of 2015.

Shuttle buses will leave every 30 minutes on the hour and half-hour from Bayonne and at 15 and 45 minutes after the hour from the Staten Island side. The buses are equipped with bike racks.
