Al Wilson was an R&B singer from Meridian, Mississippi who bounced around on the periphery of the pop music scene in the late sixties (although he some notable successes on the R&B charts), but is remembered for his #1 hit, “Show and Tell” which reached the top of the charts in 1973.

Fun fact: it was actually a cover; Johnny Mathis released a sleepier version in 1972 that didn’t make much noise except on the Easy Listening chart (yes, there used to be an Easy Listening chart) but Wilson injected a great deal of soul into it. He never again reached #1, but he did have a total of three Top 30 hits, which is more than most singers.

It’s a shame this great song doesn’t get any airplay anymore, especially from Big Joe.
