A shovel laying in the street a led to a shooting on a snow-covered Newark street, authorities told NJ Advance Media.

NJ Advance Media reported a man told police he began to dig through two feet of snow on Lindsley Avenue with the shovel, when a woman who claimed it was hers.

After the man returned the shovel and headed home, the woman allegedly told one of the three men with her to shoot the 38-year-old man, according to the report.

The man was shot in the rear end, the report said. He was hit in the mouth by a second woman as he tried to grab the gun, according to the report.

The group allegedly fled in a car while the man returned to his home.
