We know you can lose your driving privileges for a period of time if you're caught driving drunk or too many points. I say it's time to crack down on poor or stupid driving much sooner.

Many people have lost their license after a DWI or excessive speeding, even though no persons were harmed or property damaged. However if you get cause crashes by your own stupidity no such consequences occur.

Take for instance the driver of a car that went around a barrier and drove on the railroad tracks last week in Long Branch. Yep, you guessed it. The car got stuck and the train smashed into it, causing damage to the train and of course commuter delays and mass hysteria. This happens there all the time. Fortunately the family got out of the car and no one was injured.

YOU LOSE YOUR LICENSE SIR, OR MAM'!

Done. Maybe 6 months. Maybe a year, AND maybe the conductor gets to yell at you in front of a platform full of angry commuters at the train station one Friday afternoon in the summer! Plus, if you've caused more than two accidents in three years. DONE!

Stupid driving should be punishable by the law. We can leave it to some ad agency that comes up with all those catchy, CLICK IT OR TICKET or BUZZED DRIVING IS DRUNK DRIVING slogans to create a catchy public service ad campaign.

How's this one for starters. STAY OFF THE ROAD YOU STUPID F---! Well, it might need a bit more polish, but you get the point.
