The accusations of corruption claim Menendez gave favors to his benefactor-friend Salomon Melgen while Melgen covered a laundry list of expensive travel costs and contributed over $1 million to various political campaigns connected to the senator.

According to the indictment, Melgen funded Menendez's stay in a Parisian luxury hotel, private international and domestic flights, expensive meals, golf outings, and tens of thousands of dollars in legal defense funding, among other provisions. Melgen's exclusive Dominican resort villa was also reportedly used by Menendez.

The senator said he paid Melgen back for some of those flights, although this occurred more than two years after the trips, according to NJ.com.
