Today in Trenton, Democratic lawmakers are expected to introduce legislation to raise the state's minimum wage from $8.38 an hour to $15. That's a 79% raise. Not bad. The only problem is it's a ridiculous thing to do to small business in New Jersey. This will drive up the cost of goods and services or cause jobs to be lost or both.

"With middle-class families in decline and the ranks of low-income families growing, it's time New Jersey took bold action to stop the backsliding and rebuild an economy that works for everyone," said Assemblyman John Wisniewski.

What does Michele Siekerka, president and CEO of the New Jersey Business and Industry Association say? "It takes away that certainty and predictability business needs when they do their planning. Just proposing it sends a chilling effect."
