Jerry Meekins, a Florida resident bought a $197 ticket on Spirit Airlines to visit his daughter here in  New Jersey.  Two weeks later, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer & was told he could no longer fly.

According to reports, this 76 year old man asked Spirit for a refund after explaining his situation, but was told all tickets were nonrefundable, with no exceptions given.

The company issued a statement saying they empathized with the man, but making an exception would lead to many other customers in similar situations making the same kind of request. According to a spokesperson,  "it's just not fair".

Meekins wants the company to change its policy & refund customers in situations like this. He says "this was never just about the money".
