Shore Charity Spreads Holiday Cheer to Sandy Victims [AUDIO]

For the second consecutive year, Jersey Shore Gift Givers are providing holiday presents to families displaced by the Superstorm.

The group launched in the wake of Sandy by a trio of Toms River natives, Robin Sharkey Beaudry, Gina Crevier, and Lisa Vergona.

In a short period of time last year, word spread rapidly about the charity initiative. They donated gifts to over 100 kids from 35 families in Ocean County.

“Every kid that we had received all the gifts they had asked for,” Sharkey Beaudry said. “And then the families, we were able to give them gift cards.”

While the demand and need has waned more than a year into the storm recovery, she pointed out that many families are still picking up the pieces from Sandy.

“There are still people out there who are struggling, having a hard time,” she said. “We didn’t want to just leave them. We wanted to still help those that were still in need.”

This year, Jersey Shore Gift Givers will help about 10 families.

“We actually had some of the kids just asking for new clothes, socks,” she said.

The presents will be dropped off to the parents, who will make the gift-giving determination.

“They’ll be a nice, little delivery on the steps for whoever we ring the doorbell to, and Santa will have delivered it for them,” Sharkey Beaudry said.

“I just think it’s so important. You have to give back to the community that gave you so much.”
