The video shows a man said slapping and punching another person curled up on a couch trying to protect himself. Fox 29 quoted an unnamed family member of two boys connected to the incident saying the video was taken in January but released on social media this week. That report also described the person being beaten as a 15-year-old boy.

"We want to assure the public that this matter is being investigated thoroughly and both parties seen in the video have been identified. We have ensured that the juvenile in the video is safe and is in no danger at this time," West Deptford Police wrote on their Facebook page.

Police Chief Samuel DiSimone told 6 ABC the man and the boy know each other and steps have been taken to make sure they do not come in contact.

The department also warned against people taking matters into their own hands.

"We ask that you refrain from posting any threats towards any parties via social media or otherwise," wrote the department.
