Police believe lightning sparked a fire at an apartment complex for senior citizens in Manalapan. The blaze destroyed four units at the age-restricted Covered Bridge complex, while four others sustained smoke and water damage.

Police Lt. Michael Fountain tells the Asbury Park Press all residents were evacuated. Roughly 10 people were in the building when the fire broke out.

Authorities say one firefighter was taken to a hospital for "heat-related reasons," but further details on his condition were not disclosed. Several other firefighters were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
