Hopewell Police say the home on Voorhees Avenue is a complete loss and removed the animals from the home, placing bird cages on the front lawn and covering each of them. Firefighters also helped resuscitate several of the birds.

A phone call to the owner by police confirmed there were no other people at home at the time of the fire according to Planet Princeton.

CentralJersey.com reports several other large birds survived the fire and Montgomery Township Animal Control is helping the homeowner find them shelter.

The fire re-started on the home's second story several hours after the initial flames were knocked down  reports Planet Princeton. Police say nearby North Greenwood Avenue and Model Avenue have been reopened.

Crews from a dozen surrounding towns responded to the fire. No injuries have been reported to any fire fighters.
