SOUTH AMBOY — Two drivers were killed and three passengers seriously injured in collision between two mini-vans on Route 35 early Sunday.

Nine days after this story was published, prosecutors said the information they initially released was incorrect, and that they blamed the wrong driver. This story has been edited since its original publication. To read a more complete account of prosecutors' updated conclusions, click here.

Prosecutors had initially said Percell Livingston Jr., 51 of East Orange was driving the wrong way on Route 9 — a statement they later corrected.

"After reviewing evidence acquired during the investigation, it has been determined that Miguel Mendoza-Chong, 31, of Perth Amboy, and not Percell Livingston Jr., 51 of East Orange, was driving the wrong way on Route 9 north when their minivans crashed head on in South Amboy," Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said in a statement.

Mendoza-Chong and Livingston were both pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers in Mendoza-Chong's car were hospitalized.
