New Jersey’s emergency blood supply is low, putting patients across the state at risk. State Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman  will be hosting a blood drive at the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset in Somerville to bring attention to this need.

Much of the blood donations benefit the hospital’s cancer patients. The senator will be donating plasma and is encouraging the community to join him to give back to the community.

"I think it's a great opportunity to give a little something back," Bateman said.

I almost could not believe when Bateman told us that he will be donating his 29th gallon at the blood drive on Nov. 7. This event is open to the public from 2 to 7 p.m., and all donations collected will stay on campus to help local patients like Casey Cattell of Somerset. Cattell has survived as a direct result of the generosity of New Jersey blood donors.

Help the next person in need by stopping by the Steeplechase Cancer Center on Monday and make a donation!
