The latest dangerous driving behavior is probably staring you in the face each time you check Instagram or Twitter.

Drivers, mostly the young and inexperienced ones, are taking photos and videos of themselves while behind the wheel of a moving vehicle.

The proof is the millions of "selfies" posted on social media. Take a look at hashtags like #drivingfast and #drivingintherain for some scary examples.

Tracy Noble, spokesperson for AAA Mid-Atlantic, called the trend "unbelievable" and "unacceptable." Now, other drivers don't only have to worry about folks texting and talking on their cell phones behind the wheel; they're posing for photographs and six-second videos.

"Taking your eyes off the road to record yourself while driving is possibly one of the most ridiculous things people can do," Noble said.

AAA Mid-Atlantic did the math and found that a driver going 60 miles per hour would need to take their eyes off the road for the length of nearly two basketball courts in order to take a two-second photo.

A six-second video, the maximum length on many sites, would equate to distraction that lasts for the length of one-and-a-half football fields.

"We need people to get back to the basics and stop doing anything in the vehicle but driving," added Noble. "It's absolutely insane how people can go that far with their eyes not on the roadway."
