TOMS RIVER — Police and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office are looking for a driver of a newer sedan wanted for allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal accident Tuesday night.

John Ekarius, a 34-year-old resident of nearby Dover Woods was killed on Route 70 westbound near the Route 9 overpass in Toms River on the Lakewood line shortly after 10 p.m., police said. He also was struck by two other vehicles that stopped, according to Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco.

The vehicle was initially described by authorities as a a blue, model year 2014-2016 Infiniti Q50. Police later said it may also be a late-model Nissan Altima or another Infiniti sedan. It is believed to have heavy front end damage, according to Toms River Police.

A plastic piece of a front bumper, approximately 16 feet by 16 inches, was located at the scene, according to Toms River Police Mitch Little.
