Theatergoer Sue Cooper of Emerson tells The Record of Woodland Park that she didn't let her children watch the news from Colorado before taking them to a Friday screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" at the Westwood Theaters in Westwood.

Emerson inspected the theater herself before the show, and asked the theater manager if the back doors were locked.

AMC Entertainment, which has movie theaters in Ridgefield Park, Paramus, Clifton and Wayne, tells the newspaper they are taking a closer look at security.

Police in Ridgewood and Ridgefield Park say they'll be stepping up patrols around local theaters as a precaution.
