TEWSBURY — A second crash on Route 78 Sunday afternoon closed down the westbound lanes of the highway in Hunterdon County.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeff Flynn said at least two vehicles were involved in the crash around 1:30 p.m. just before exit 24 for Route 523 in Tewksbury. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Flynn said.

Flynn said commuters should expect an "extended closure" of the road as investigators continue working to determine what caused the crash.

New Jersey 101.5 Fast Traffic's Bob Williams said Route 22 is the best way around the delay and will get you around the closure points.

"If the closure lasts too long expect  that you'll have some company as the afternoon goes on,' Williams said.

Earlier in the day, a mini-van flipped over on the eastbound side near exit 11 for Pattenburg Road in Pittstown. The accident happened around noon and left at least two people hospitalized.
