The search continued Tuesday for a man who friends say accidentally fell into Passaic River in Newark late Monday afternoon.

According to NJ Advance Media, firefighters were near the river in the area of Raymond Boulevard Monday night, probing the water with long poles as they searched for the victim.

Searchers returned to the river Tuesday with boats, sonar equipment and cameras.

Newark Police Department spokesman Capt. Derek Glenn told NJ Advance Media that police do not think the man was trying to take his own life.
