The New York Police Department says he was 27-year-old Wesley Mensing of Scotch Plains.

Police say he and a 30-year-old woman were crossing a street Saturday evening when a Mercedes-Benz SUV hit them both. The woman is hospitalized in stable condition. Mensing was dead on arrival.

The 45-year-old SUV driver got an unlicensed-driving ticket.

The investigation is continuing, and police haven't released the driver's name.
