Busloads of supporters arrived at the New Jersey State House today, demanding legislators to pass the Opportunity Scholarship Act during the lame-duck session. An estimated crowd of 2,500 people showed up for the rally on the steps of the capitol building.

The legislation would provide tax scholarships for up to 40,000 needy children that can be used at participating public and non-public schools. The bill, (S-1872/A-2810), establishes a pilot program with 13 school districts.

The rally featured key community and education leaders like the Reverend Reginald T. Jackson and New Jersey Assemblyman Angel Fuentes (D-5).
