Months after a hazing scandal caused the cancellation of the 2014 Sayreville high school football season, the Bombers' senior captain told NJ Advance Media that although he's not sure if he'll transfer to another school this year, one thing is certain: he will be competing in track and field events.

Myles Hartsfield, an NJSIAA Meet of Champions winner and one of the most prominent high school football and track and field athletes in the country, is planning to compete in track and field events this season.

Hartsfield, in a New Jersey Advance Media article on NJ.com, told the publication that he's still not sure whether or not he'll stay at Sayreville War Memorial High School or transfer to another high school. His competition schedule and eligibility will depend on his residency when the season begins. "According to the NJSIAA transfer rule, if Hartsfield transferred he would be ineligible to participate for a period of 30 calendar days or half the maximum games," the article stated. However, if a parent or guardian registers him for school with a change of address, his eligibility will begin immediately.

The athlete told NJ Advance Media that things at War Memorial High School have been a bit quieter since the scandal. He also said he's still unsure about his future college plans.

On Jan. 6, The Sayreville School District reinstated the high school football program for the 2015 season. The announcement was made by Superintendent of Schools Richard Labbe.

Initially, Labbe was unsure if the football program would be reinstated. In October, the school district canceled the remainder of Bombers’ 2014 season following allegations of harassment, intimidation and bullying within the program.

Seven students ages 15-17 on the Bombers football team were charged with juvenile delinquency by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office in connection with four separate alleged attacks on underclassmen that took place in the high school locker room. Three of the students were charged with sexual assault.
