Central Jersey Group IV

(3) Colts Neck 28, (2) Nottingham 19

The Cougars (9-1) tied the school record for wins and advanced to their first state final in school history as senior tailback Anthony Gargiulo ran for four touchdowns to down the Northstars (7-3).

Colts Neck will play top-seeded Brick in the championship game at a neutral site on the weekend of Dec. 6-8.

Colts Neck built a 21-0 lead at the half on a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs and a 29-yard touchdown run by Gargiulo as the defense came up with five turnovers. A 12-play, 68-yard drive that took six minutes and ended with a 3-yard touchdown run by Gargiulo gave Colts Neck a 28-7 lead with 1:11 left in the third quarter and the Cougars held on to win.

South Jersey Group IV

(6) Shawnee 28, (2) Toms River South 24

The Renegades (7-3) roared all the way back from a 24-0 halftime deficit with 28 second-half points to stun the Indians (7-3) and deny them a trip to their first sectional final in 15 years.

A 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Michael Welsh with 2:11 left in the game capped a 10-play, 73-yard drive to win it by Shawnee, which will face top-seeded Timber Creek in the championship game. Welsh finished with 107 yards passing, 48 yards rushing and three total touchdowns to fuel the comeback, and Anthony DiOrio ran for 108 second-half yards.

Junior quarterback Tymere Berry had a 25-yard touchdown run, senior kicker Russell Messler booted a 28-yard field goal, senior running back Otis Kearney had a 29-yard touchdown run, and junior Khaleel Greene had a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Indians a 24-0 lead at the break.

 

South Jersey Group III 

(4) Delsea 27, (1) Manasquan 10

The defending champion Crusaders (9-2) are back in the final, where they will take on third-seeded Barnegat, as senior quarterback Rob Rolle and junior running back Isaiah Spencer each ran for a pair of touchdowns and the Delsea defense limited the Warriors (7-3) to 91 total yards to pick up the win.

Senior kicker Raul Perez had a 23-yard field goal and senior tailback Joe Murphy had a 32-yard touchdown run in the loss. After being down 3-0, Delsea scored 27 unanswered points on touchdown runs of 1 and 8 yards by Rolle in the first half and scoring runs of five and 69 yards in the second half by Spencer.

Non-Public Group III 

(1) St. Joseph-Montvale 28, (4) Red Bank Catholic 7

For the second straight season, the defending champion Green Knights (9-0), the No. 1 team in the state, ended the playoff run for the previously unbeaten Caseys (9-1) as quarterback Spencer Aukamp scored on runs of 5 and 2 yards to help lead the way.

Sherman Alston had a 9-yard touchdown run and Brian Kearns added a 5-yard touchdown run as the Green Knights built a 28-0 lead to advance to face Pope John XXIII in the final.

Senior tailback Larry Redaelli had a one-yard touchdown run with 2:11 left in the game for RBC's lone score.

Non-Public Group I

(3) St. Mary's-Rutherford 35, (7) Mater Dei Prep 0

Keon Banks and Willie Krajnik each ran for a pair of touchdowns as the Gaels (9-2) ended the best season by the Seraphs (6-5) since 1999 to advance to face St. Joseph-Hammonton in the final.

Banks had touchdown runs of 10 and 1 yard, Krajnik ran for scores of 60 and 52 yards, and Anthony Pontoriero added a 50-yard touchdown in the win for the Gaels, who have not allowed a point in two state playoff games.
