In a ruling published Thursday, a federal judge in Trenton denied the league's motion to dismiss the lawsuit. But he ordered the case transferred to Rhode Island, where the league is based.

The Big East Conference is now known as the American Athletic Conference.

Rutgers is headed to the Big 10 and disputes the $10 million the American Athletic Conference has said it must pay. The school claims the conference selectively enforced its exit policy and didn't require the same fee from other schools.

Rutgers also wants reimbursement for lost revenue when a home football game against TCU was canceled when TCU elected not to join the Big East.
