Some major traffic gridlock is expected around Piscataway this weekend as Rutgers University holds graduation ceremonies for the class of 2012.

With a record number of graduates and thousands of family members expected to attend Sunday's event at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway, authorities and university officials expect heavy traffic in the area for most of the day.

Motorists are urged to avoid Route 18 in the New Brunswick and Piscataway areas, as well as downtown areas of New Brunswick.

 

 

Outgoing University President Richard McCormick will confer degrees on an estimated 13,465 graduates beginning at 12:30PM on Sunday. However, individual degree programs, however, will receive diplomas in smaller ceremonies scheduled throughout the weekend.

That number includes nearly 9,000 undergraduates and about 3,200 students receiving their master's degree, Another 1,230 will receive doctorates.
