LAWRENCE — The Department of Transportation will take another try Saturday at starting work on the Route 1 ramp from Route 95 North/Route 295 South.

Both the north and southbound ramps to Route 1 at Exit 67 in Lawrence will be closed on Saturday starting at 7 a.m. for prep work on the $4 million project, which will demolish and replace the ramp deck leading to Route 1 southbound.

The northbound ramp will reopen at 7 p.m. but the southbound ramp will stay closed for approximately eight weeks, according to DOT spokesman Kevin Israel.

The work was scheduled to begin last weekend but the threat of snow postponed the project.

“The DOT goes through and services all our bridges over time and it’s this bridge’s time. We do preventative maintenance to avoid there being problems,” Israel said, adding that there was no emergency need to do the work.

New Jersey 101.5 Meteorologist Dan Zarrow said "Of course this weekend is New Jersey's next chance for accumulating snow. Right now, I'll say a few inches are possible. We'll have to see how that forecast evolves through the rest of the week."

Drivers will be detoured to continue past Route 1 to Exit 65A for Sloan Avenue in Hamilton where drivers can change direction and get to Route 1 from Route 295 northbound.
