The truck jackknifed in the median at exit 5 for Shelton Road in South Plainfield as it drifted from the northbound lanes, into the median toward the southbound lanes around noon, according to State Police.

Police said the driver suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized. It is not known what made the driver lose control of the big rig.

The left lane was blocked in both directions for cleanup of the truck and a fuel spill as of 3:15 p.m. Northbound traffic was backed up several miles to Route 1, and a rubbernecking delay was developing on the southbound side.
