An accident on Route 206 in Mercer County closed down the road and knocked out a traffic light Friday afternoon.

Lawrence Township Police Lt. Joseph Amodio said a Jeep Liberty stopped at a traffic light at Province Line Road  driven by a 56-year-old East Windsor woman was rear-ended by a Toyota Highlander driven by a 38-year-old Lawrence Township woman.Amodio did not disclose names of the women.

Upon impact the Toyota went off the road, struck a street sign, a portion of a tree and wound up in a traffic light control box, said Amodio. She was taken to Capital Health for treatment of possible head and leg injuries.

Amodio said foul play, drugs or alcohol seem to have played a part in the accident and no charges have been filed.

Traffic was slow on Route 206 southbound approaching Province Line Road in front of the Jasna Polana golf course. Traffic seeking alternative routes northbound was slowing down Fackler Road and Mercer Road. Cross traffic was later blocked on Province Line Road as repaoirs were made to the traffic light.

It's at least the second serious accident Friday in Lawrence; an accident on Route 1 southbound in front of the Mercer Mall took down a utility pole and wires early Friday morning. Utility crews have closed two of three lanes as they make repairs.
