An overnight accident on Route 1 in Mercer County will cause headaches for the morning commute.

Lawrence Police told New Jersey 101.5 an overnight accident on the southbound side in front of the Mercer Mall brought down a utility pole and wires onto the roadway.

Two lanes were closed as of 6 a.m. Police said they would try to open up an additional lane but it would likely close again after the morning commute as repair work is expected to take several hours.

The ramps from Quakerbridge Road to Route 1 south are also closed.

UPDATE: The lanes were briefly reopened in the 7 a.m. hour, but officials expect to close them again and continue work after 8 a.m.

The road was closed in both directions for a time overnight as the fallen power lines stretched across all lanes.

Police said the accident itself was quickly cleared up with no injuries.
