Rockefeller: No Evidence NJ Traffic Study was Legit

A U.S. senator looking into the closures of lanes leading up to a major New Jersey bridge says he has received "zero evidence" that the closings were "part of a legitimate traffic study."

Jay Rockefeller IV (D-West Virginia) had sent a series of questions to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The West Virginia Democrat and Commerce Committee chairman wanted to know what was behind closures on access lanes to the George Washington Bridge in September.

The agency told him in a letter the closures, which caused massive gridlock, were "aberrational."

Documents released last week appear to show that they were ordered by an aide to Gov. Chris Christie as part of a political vendetta.

Christie has apologized and fired the aide but denied involvement or knowledge.

A traffic report was produced amid the lane closures.
