Robbinsville Police Officer Faces Aggravated Assault Charges
A New Jersey police officer is undergoing a psychiatric exam after he was accused of attacking a woman in a wheelchair and her 4-year-old son while on duty.
Authorities say Robbinsville Police Sgt. Mark Lee broke into the woman's apartment at a home that serves people with disabilities.
Prosecutors say Lee assaulted the 45-year-old woman and her son and at one point knocked her from her wheelchair. The 18-year veteran of the department later kicked out a window to escape from a police vehicle before he was recaptured.
Charges against Lee include aggravated assault and official misconduct. Prosecutors say they don't know if he has a lawyer yet.
Mayor David Fried says the officer's actions Monday night were totally out of character.
