‘Right Next Door (Because of Me)’ by Robert Cray: Doyle’s ‘Not-So-Top-10′ list
His first hit was his biggest: “Smoking Gun”. His third hit, “Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark”, only hit #74, but got additional life after it was used in a beer commercial.
The song I requested that Big Joe play was in between those two hits, and it only made it to number 80, but I think its a great song, “Right Next Door (Because of Me)”; it tells the tale of a man who had sex with the woman next door and then listens through the wall as her man confronts her. It’s got some of Cray’s trademark guitar work and a catchy hook. Big Joe didn’t play it.
Fun Robert Cray fact: he was part of the fictional band Otis Day and the Knights in the movie “Animal House.”
