Gov. Chris Christie (R) has answered one of the biggest mysteries of the year: the amount of weight he has lost since having lap band surgery in 2013.

According to the New York Times, during a closed door event with potential conservative donors at the Manhattan apartment of David Koch on Friday night, Christie revealed that he has dropped 85 pounds since the surgery.

Christie had the surgery in February, 2013 and went public with his decision in May. “I’ve struggled with this issue for 20 years,” he told the New York Post at the time. “For me, this is about turning 50 and looking at my children and wanting to be there for them.” He has not willingly discussed his weight, calling the decision to have surgery an "intensely personal" matter.

Estimates at the time the surgery was made public put his weight at around 300 pounds. The procedure involves having a silicon tube placed around the top of his stomach which limits the amount of food that can be eaten, leading to a fuller feeling with less after a meal.

At the fundraiser, Christie admitted to being aware that he would have to lose weight if he were to run for national office. He also joked about his weight, telling the crowd, “A doctor once told me: you have to have the right relationship with the food you eat. And believe me, for many years, I had a great relationship with the foods I ate.”

Christie's weight has always been the subject of many jokes, including a recent Top 10 list by David Letterman:  Mexican Nicknames for Chris Christie, which included "Porko Vallarta," "Lap-Bandito" and "Chiportly." Ironically, it was Letterman's show where Christie infamously ate a doughnut during what turned out to be the night before his surgery.
