The New Jersey Turnpike Authority says it will spend up to $8 million for the construction of a new restaurant at the Grover Cleveland Service Area above Exit 11 on the northbound Turnpike.

The restaurant building has been closed since Superstorm Sandy, when a nearby creek rose and flooded the area.

Turnpike officials say food service contractor HMS Host will be handling the permitting and design for the new facility at the rest stop in Woodbridge.

Once that is complete, the project is expected to take about two years but officials say there is no firm timetable yet.

Turnpike officials tell The Star-Ledger that the new building will be raised up to guard against flooding.
