Remembering The Hamburgular [VIDEO]

Coverage of the theft in Linden of $100,000 worth of hamburger patties has mentioned the Hamburgular, the thief who was part of  McDonaldland in commercials for McDonald’s in the 1970s and 80s. Who is this masked man?

According to McDonaldsWiki.com, he was first introduced in 1971 and wore a costume that included a black-and-white hooped shirt and pants, a red cape, a wide-brimmed hat, and red gloves. He spoke gibberish which was translated by Captain Crook.

Originally a villain, Hamburgular got a makeover in 1985 and went from troll-ish in appearance to being a younger, red headed character who said “robble robble” and more playful than evil.

He hasn’t appeared in commercials in years but lives on in boxes of McDonald’s cookies.
