Joe South may not be remembered as a music icon, but his contributions were significant.

Joe South, who passed away last week,  is most remembered for his hit records "Games People Play", and "Walk a Mile in My Shoes."

It's not widely known what South did behind the scenes as a song writer and session musician.  Not until this past week I never knew that Joe South wrote Lynn Anderson's huge hit "(I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden" and Billy Joe Royal's "Down in the Boondocks."  Remember the song "Hush" by Deep Purple"?  That song was penned by Mr. South too.

Talk about versatility.  Joe was a sought after session guitarist.  He played in recording sessions for Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, and Simon and Garfunkel.
