Rainy, stormy weather on the way for New Jersey Thursday
But the weather will clear out beautifully across the Garden State for the upcoming first full weekend of summer.
It’s another warm, humid summer day. And another potentially stormy summer day too. It looks like South Jersey will get the worst of this round of yucky weather once again – inconvenient after Tuesday’s ferocious severe storms, and unfortunate as North Jersey really needs the rain.
As of this writing Thursday morning, the radar image for New Jersey remains blank as the rain is still moving eastward through Pennsylvania. However, a period of steady if not heavy rain is aiming for the southern half of NJ between about 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday. Current models show upwards of 1.5 inches of rain by the end of the day.
Again, Thursday’s steadiest, heaviest rain will be limited to the southern part of the Garden State. However, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible throughout the state through Thursday afternoon. Some of these storms could be on the strong side, with gusty winds and hail possible. However, the severe weather indices are not as perilously high as on Tuesday. So I think (and I hope) the outcome will be far less dramatic and intense.
Bottom line for Thursday… Carry an umbrella and close the sunroof, just in case.
By Thursday evening, any lingering showers will taper off and skies will begin to clear. Fog is possible by Friday morning, especially in areas where it rained hard during the day Thursday. Overnight lows will far to around 60 degrees.
Following the rain, a sizable bubble of high pressure will build toward the Garden State. That will keep skies clear, weather dry, and temperatures comfortably warm through the upcoming weekend!
Friday should clear away to mostly sunny skies, with high temperatures on either side of 80 degrees. Nice! Admittedly, the NAM model does show an isolated shower through midday Friday. However, since I don’t see great justification for this rain chance, I’m keeping Friday’s forecast dry for now.
As we dive into the final weekend of June, our weather will stay pleasant, dry, and warm. Sunshine will abound on Saturday, with a few fair-weather clouds building for Sunday. For both weekend days, high temperatures away from the ocean will reach the lower 80s. Beach thermometers should reach the 70s.
Monday daytime should squeak out dry, with a mix of sun and clouds and highs around 80 degrees. However, our next storm system looks to arrive Monday evening, with rain chances continuing just about all day Tuesday.
